Dance Myth ‘Waking Up To Your island’

Brief

To create a bespoke animated music video for the song ‘Waking Up To Your Island’ by Dance Myth, from his album ‘The Shapes We Make’.  Dance Myth (aka Dan Smith) is a musician and poet, who has made music over the years with the band Listener, and has amassed a cult-like following due to his poignant lyricism. This album is his first under the Dance Myth moniker.

Outcome

The album artwork is a collage made up of photos from nature and Dan's own childhood. I wanted to create a video that continued the collage motif, but also felt like going through a scrap book of different moments throughout your life. The images stack on top of each other, much like how memories build atop other memories, before being peeled back at the end to bring us back to the moment from which we begin.

I have been a fan of Dan's work for many years, so it was a dream come true getting to work on this project and create some art for someone whose art has meant so much to me for a huge chunk of my life.
